KLAIRS 101: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CULT K-BEAUTY BRAND

From how to use its cult skincare products to whether it’s formulations work for sensitive skin – we answer your key questions about Klairs...

The illustrious world of K-beauty is saturated with alluring and perfectly packaged brands but with all of the choice on offer, how do you work out what’s right for your lifestyle and skin type?

Designed to deliver real results, vegan skincare brand Klairs is a true pioneer of cruelty-free beauty that’s guilt-free and feels glorious on skin.

Artificial fragrance and colourant free, it’s a functional, straightforward range designed to care for sensitive skin by combining simple, gentle formulations with highly efficacious ingredients.

The result? Effective skincare that anyone can use.

From its cleansers to its toners, each Klairs product has been created to correct and perfect skin over time.

You won’t find harsh ingredients on the INCI list, instead, this is a brand built around high-quality, straightforward formulations and affordable prices tags.

If you like the sound of that, read on for the full lowdown…

• IS KLAIRS GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?

While we all suffer from different levels of skin sensitivity, Klairs only creates products with the most effective and essential raw ingredients – all of which have passed the strict safety measures or a research lab that specialises in dermatologist-standard skincare.

Nothing about this brand is fluff or filler and its formulators ensure that its products are created without components that can irritate sensitive skin, which means that redness or inflammation is less likely to occur.

Of course, nobody can guarantee that skin will never react, but these measures go a long way to reducing skin reactivity.

If your skin is extra sensitive, we suggest the following cleanser and toner combination to give skin what it needs but nothing more.

Comprised of just six ingredients including Jojoba Seed Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil to control and regulate sebum levels and maintain the optimum oil and water balance of skin, this vitamin-rich cleanser provides a fresh and hydrating finish without irritating skin.

Rich in Linoleic Acid and antioxidant-rich Vitamins A, B and C, it nourishes without weighing skin down and boasts a light oil texture that effortlessly emulsifies to whisk away dead skin cells and daily grime. Skin is left deeply cleansed, soft, supple and smooth.

Fragrance-free and formulated without any essential oils, this unscented toner from Klairs is a free-from version of the original.

Like a toner 2.0 it boasts all of the same skin-nourishing, deep hydration that the original provides but with a slightly lighter texture and without the all-natural essential oils making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid – which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water – it helps to moisturise and nourish skin, whilst also strengthening the skin’s barrier, while also restoring skin’s optimal pH level after cleansing.

• IS KLAIRS VEGAN AND CRUELTY-FREE?

Yes, Klairs is a 100% cruelty-free, vegan, K-beauty brand and is steadfastly against animal testing.

Its formulas rely on plant-based ingredients such as Black Sesame Oil and Blackcurrant Seed Oil and have done since it was founded in 2010. We like to think of it as guilt-free and good for skin.

• CAN I USE KLAIRS VITAMIN C SERUM EVERY DAY?

Vitamin C is one of the antioxidants we swear by for brightening and rejuvenating skin.

Formulated with just 5% concentration of Vitamin C (which is gentle enough for sensitive skin to use without irritation, but strong enough to see an impact in the clarity of your complexion) Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C is gentle enough to be used every day.

The kind-to-your-complexion formula helps to even-out skin tones, tighten pores, brighten skin and fade pigmentation and, perhaps more importantly, is formulated at a level that ensures it can be used daily without causing irritation or redness.

While you might automatically think a higher percentage means more potency, intense concentrations of Vitamin C don’t necessarily equal better results. In fact, studies show that anything from 1% to 20% vitamin C is effective meaning that more doesn’t always equal more.

If used during the day, we suggest you always follow up with sunscreen and avoid using chemical exfoliators, such as AHAs or BHAs, in the same routine.

• HOW DO I APPLY THE KLAIRS TONER?

Due to its viscous texture, both formulations can also be used as absorbing or ‘patting’ toners where you press and work the tonic into skin with your palms for complete absorption for an instant hydration boost.

They are also great product to use in the 7 skin method, which is the art of layering toners and essences after you’ve cleansed and before you moisturise, to deeply rehydrate, lock-in moisture and nourish skin.

• HOW DO I USE THE KLAIRS VITAMIN E MASK?

A multifunctional product that can be used as a mask, sleeping pack or daily face cream, the Klairs Vitamin E Mask is a real workhorse and deserves a place in every skincare regime.

Fortified with the antioxidant power of Vitamin E to brighten, improve wrinkles, and prevent signs of aging, it also counts pigment-fighting ingredients such as Blackberry Fruit Extract and Lemon Peel Oil to brighten and refine skin.

With an indulgent, pudding-like texture, the cream transforms into a rich essence that helps the product tightly adhere onto the skin, which maintains and lock-in the moisture for at least eight hours.

This memory foam consistency works its magic overnight to help unveil brighter, firmer, and more hydrated skin when you wake up.

Use it during the day to protect the skin from UV damages and use it at night for serious wrinkle improvement and skin regeneration.

TONIC15 top tip:

Mix the Vitamin E Mask with Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop or another Vitamin C serum before applying to skin.

By applying Vitamin C and E together, you’re providing skin with double the antioxidant ammunition to help fight damage from free radicals and UV rays than using Vitamin C by itself.

With regards to sun damage, some reports say that sunscreen only blocks 55% of the free radicals we’re exposed to when we’re out in the sun.

To protect skin from sun damage and to shield it from pollution, using Vitamin C and E in this way – alongside a sunscreen – can help to truly protect skin.

So, whatever the reason you’re considering Klairs, from a Vitamin C that’s gentle enough for everyday use to toners and tonics that suit sensitive skin, this is the range that truly has something for everyone.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email pamper@tonic15.com or get in touch with us on Instagram.
